NA WAHINE O KE KAI
2009 ENTRY FEE

Aloha Na Wahine –

We are looking at budget requirements and expenses projected for this year’s race, which will be held on Sunday, September 27, 2009.  As you know, costs last year were high and sponsorships were lower than we hoped for.  Some sponsors who have been with us for years cannot support us this year because of the current economic situation.  Also, state and federal agencies are cutting back on grant money.  This is affecting everyone.

In spite of this, we will not be increasing the entry fee, it will remain at $550 per crew.  However, we will require that crews pay for their own canoe shipping to Molokai.  This will be approximately $150 per canoe, or higher, based on projected increases by Young Brothers.  We will make shipping arrangements in Honolulu.  Just show up and pay to ship your canoe. (We will advise you of shipping date). Crews shipping from islands other than Oahu will make their own arrangements with Young Brothers.

We will also be charging an extra $50 for entry fees received after September 22, 2009.   All payments made after that date, including payments made on Molokai, will be $600 per crew.  We realize these decisions affect your fundraising efforts and planning for this year’s race.  Our focus continues to be putting on a safe and competitive race, and especially to welcome you all back in September.
